Awesome, that was a much-needed improvement. One more port and a web-interface, and I'll have my order in promptly ;)

Why do you need a web interface when you have the Airport Utility? That's way better than a web panel.

I prefer the web interface, because I'm talking directly to the device, I can connect to it from any machine on the network or even across the Internet if I need to. I'm one of those people that doesn't like to use the installation CDs that sometimes come with network gear. I know what I'm doing and sort of feel like the software package over-simplifies a fairly complex device.

I agree 100% (although I did buy it back in February b/c of the NAS and print server capabilities).

What is the advantage of gigabit ethernet?
i.e. is it something that can actually make a difference on a home network? Or is more of a theoretical thing such as SATA v. SATA II?

Trust me, if all your machines support Gigabit Ethernet and you copy large files between the machines, it makes a LARGE difference. Cuts copy time here in half. I have done some timed tests with 100Base-T and 1000Base-T. This is between machines and has nothing to do with Internet speed, just so no one will take this wrong.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what all is needed to set up the airport extreme. I want to set one up in my dorm room come school time, but it would be useless if I had to have my laptop connected to it all the time anyway.

Airport extreme is just the name of the base station. It functions like any other wireless router. No need to have your computer hooked up to it.
