OK, it's probably been asked before, but a search didn't reveal anything helpful. So, riddle me this Batman... Is there any way to lock the desktop on OS X 10.4? I know it can be put to sleep from the Apple menu, but I was wondering if there is any Windows-esque "Ctrl-Alt-Del" method where it doesn't sleep, but requires a password to unlock. My main concern is to keep my cat from mucking things up when she walks on the keyboard while things are running (burning a disc, tarring an archive, installing software, etc) but I am not at the Mac. Anyone?
Thanks,
-Dave

you can use the screensaver, and require a password to unlock.

Another option would be to buy DeskShade, it has a lock screen option.

If you have Fast User Switching turned on, you get a menu extra on the right end of the Menu Bar.

Click it, and you'll see a list of users and a Login Window item:

Clicking it will bring you to the Login Window (durr), thus basically locking your user account.

Thanks for the tips folks! Putting the Mac to sleep was becoming a drag, and the cat just doesn't listen.

Another option is to open up Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) and under Preferences, check the box to Show Status in Menu bar. You will now have a lock on the bar near the time, you can click that and lock screen

Ah, the keychain, makes perfect sense now that I think about it. Wish I HAD thought of it. Thanks Trippin. Points for everyone for helping my cat roam free on my keyboard, without her messing up her Dad's work! Thanks!
