installing software to ext. hard drive?

hey,

is it possible to install software to an external hard drive,
i dont mean a bootable drive, i just need to install some software,
my int. hd is being eaten ALIVE lol

are you sure you don't have duplicate data on your hard drive too?

no just pressed it a few too many times, but in diff parts as its relevant to more than 1 topic
