First of all, thanks for everyone's help. I really appreciate it.

I am wondering about disk fragmentation in OSX. I have read it is really not an issue with HFS volumes but I am not so sure.

I work on allot of video projects so that means big files. When a project is completed, I back everything to DVD and delete it from the drive. Under windows, this of course caused allot of disk fragmentation so before starting a new project, I had to either defrag the disk or just reformat it.

Will I have the same issues with OSX and if so, what is a good utility to use to defrag my drive?

There is no need to "defrag" your hard disk in OS X.
Even when working in the manner you describe, you will be just fine.

I read the article about journaling and it recommended turning journaling on. My osx partition is HFS journaled format. Is this the reason the journaling button is greyed out for all disks and partitions in my disk utility?
