If your TV has a VGA or DVI connector like mine, you can get a $20 adapter that will allow you to connect your Macbook to your TV. I have my old Mac mini hooked up to my TV and it functions sort of as an Apple TV, sans Front Row and remote.

You'll find it at the Apple Store.

Get this one.

And use the s-video not the composite cables. You'll also need an audio adapter, something like this one - should be able to find it a a local radio shack.
