Hi I am a recent switcher, and am also new to laptops. I just receieved my new 2.2 MBP on monday, and am wondering a few things. Ive noticed that it seems to be running really hot, while just on opera and itunes, with half brightness it ranges from 50-55C. This isnt to bad, its only when i start to game that i get worried. While playing warcraft 3 my cpu and gpu diode temperatures are reading 75-80C. So im just wondering if this is too hot, do any other users have any input or experience with gaming temperatures?
Thanks.

There are a lot of threads here related to temps.
But, I see temps in the 75C range with WoW and have run 5-8 hour sessions on numerous occasions without issue.

Mine gets hot too, I wouldn't worry it won't crash or anything they are very stable.

45 - 80c is pretty normal for the mbp (i guess?)

Notebooks will run in the higher temperature range, just in general. If you think about it, you have a semi-gaming computer from a 16x12x6 inch case shoved into a 1-inch-thin METAL enclosure. On the other side, those chipsets and heatsink material are designed to disperse heat a little more efficiently.

I enjoy WOW on my 15" MBP - and in general have no problems

I use an external keyboard & monitor, and so when playing for a long time I'll open the lid of the laptop.

HOWEVER - I have noticed the network every so often just stops... 60 seconds later it will come back (e.g. exceedingly bad lag in WOW)
Sometimes when really hot, it will need to be put to sleep and re-woken before the network will come back.

The PC sitting next to the Mac (work laptop) is connecting to the internet throughout this time fine.

Anybody else had issues with the network disappearing when hot?
cheers

Did you know the new Intel SR chipset is designed to operate at up to 100 celcious? So if it runs at 80c during heavy load (gaming), then you're safe.

The thermal management will shut the machine down if there's a problem or if it's operating out of spec. Just make sure the machine is on a flat, hard surface so that air can circulate under it. There's no need for concern unless the video becomes garbled or the machine turns itself off.
