missing tif's

I was working on a brochure which had several images in, all of which i had taken bar 2.

I had to re-design the cover so i went to browse the folder copntaining the images in Photoshop 7 only to find all of images had gone appart from
6. 5 jpegs and a tif, i had taken my images on a digital camera and uplaoded them tto my mac. I then chose my images and converted them to tif's. I placed them in my quark file. After sending the client a pdf i left the document untill today when i needed to ammend it. In quark it says
(file missing -43).

The files cant of just disappered surely?

Please help a designer in need.
