How do i turn speech off??!?!!

I am very annoyed because i dont know how to turn off speech for my mac. Basically if i wave my mouse over anything it talks! Is there anyway i can restore my system preferences?

Should be command+f5. Its also in System Preferences under Universal Access, turn off VoiceOver

thats just the browser. You can't turn it off.

Can you also tell me how to get rid of the squares around all my icons when i press them.

I think you inadvertently turned on the Universal Access. Go to your System Preferences, click on the Universal Access pane (in the System section) and make sure everything in the Seeing tab is off. (See attached screengrab below...)

Annoying Voice-Over is finally OVER

Thanks for posting that fix from another chap who turned on system preferences and the speech ! Worked without any problems.
