So my old hard drive broke so I'm putting in a new one i have purchased. Should I install the hard drive into my ibook then run a new copy of osx? Thats the only way I can think of doing it so please let me know if that is the right way to do it.

THanks

Install the new hard drive, put in your CD/DVD that came with your iBook, hold down C and install the OS.

Just curious, which iBook? Screen Size? CPU Speed? Is the old hard drive totally dead?
