USB Wierdness: PowerBook G4 recognizes SLVR Cell, Macbook Won't

I've heard some rumors about Mac downgrading the bus speed on the USB drives for the Macbooks. Anyone know anything about this, because I have a Motorola SLVR with iTunes and my old PowerBook G4 works perfectly with the phone, whereas with my Macbook, when I plug in the SLVR, iTunes opens but subsequently does not recognize the phone and allow for transfers. Any merit? Any thing I can do?
