I am wanting to transfer files between my Macbook and my PC that is running XP. I looked through Apples help files but it didn't seem to answer my question and made it seem harder than it should be. My PC has a firewire port in case that enables sharing that wouldn't be possibe otherwise. Anyone got any tips for getting this to work out? Thanks in advance

I would just use an external HD. I find that to be the easiest method, rather than purchasing software. Of course, I'm assuming you have an external HD (a lot of people do).

You could also transfer the files via wireless, if you have a network setup between your Mac & PC. If you know how to network, this may be the cheapest way. Again, I'm assuming you know how to network and have a wireless router.

(I'm assuming that you have some kind of home network)

Just turn-on Windows sharing on your Mac, go to Directory Access in your Applications/Utilities folder, select SMB/CIFS and configure it to the same Workgroup as your Windows machine. From your Windows, share the folder(s) you wish to access -- you should be prompted for a username and password from the Windows system.

Thanks for the link I'll try this when I get home and let you know if it was a success! I'm a relative mac noob so I couldn't find the Directory Access menu, thanks!

To find Directory Access:

Click on the spotlight button and type in Directory Access. You should then see the results pop up after 1 or 2 seconds, click on it.

The important trick:

Once the 2 computers are in the same network (either connected by an ethernet cable, or in the same wireless network), go to "Finder-> Go-> Connect to Server".

Then enter "smb://192.168.0.2" (your Window's computer's IP address).
