I can't get consistent output on this thing.

I get a bunch of coaster DVDR and CDRs (even after using different programs)

I have disc decoding problems

I don't know

it works

but only 70% of the time

should I swap my macbook before the 14 day mark?

I know there was a firmware update, but the 2.16 was not on the list of drives that needed to be updated

It's probably more likely to be the quality of the media, in my experience. Certain makes of DVD-Rs are almost guaranteed to fail, regardless of the drive used. I usually get best results from Imation discs.

that's understandable

but I was decoding my Blade Runner DVD (converting to AVI to save on battery when on the run) and it has problems decoding it due to "bad sectors"

fair enough

I put it on my cheap (no name brand) PC DVD player and it decodes it just fine

this also happened with my copy of akira

while for the other 5 DVDs I used it was fine

no rhyme no reason

just undependable

Hmm, I'd return it in that case, naturally it should be able to read a DVD without errors.
