I was just on the forums, listening to music when all of a sudden the screen faded and I got a window that said You need to restart your mac. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button.

I bought the mac so I wouldn't have problems like this... or extremely slow bittorrent transfer rates :(... Im having both... I JUST got the computer!

You just had your first kernel panic.

It can be software related but more often than not it's a hardware problem, generally due to RAM that has turned bad. Any RAM you got installed other than the factory installed module?

Well it could be something you downloaded then that has some kind of garbage in it. Just run the Apple Hardware Test to check your hardware components out first.

Insert the disk in your optical drive, restart holding down the D key and run the test in extended mode.

I remember this happening to me right after I switched to Mac.

It happened to me with a new iBook G4 so it is possible.

Ram could be loose maybe?

Ok. What I am looking for when I run the test? Will it say error or something?

Well if it's only the factory installed module, some of them are soldered to the motherboard so I don't think that would be the case. I would look first for running the Hardware Test (just to make sure it isn't hardware-related) then maybe look into the downloaded torrents (which I strongly feel are the problem here).

chontos, the Hardware Test gives you a report after it is done. Just remember to run it in Extended Mode. It's long, but it will check out all hardware components like video card, RAM, ports, etc.

Hmm... I haven't dropped it, banged it, or carried it around that much. If I need to send it away, how long will I be mac-less :(

The store i bought it from said I had 15 days to return it so maybe I'll return it and buy a different one :p

Have you port forwarded your router?

Each router has its own way of forwarding ports. Use this site to find your router and forward the appropriate ports on your router.

Help again :(

Hey guys.

A couple nights ago I posted a thread talking about the Kernal Panic I had within my first couple days of owning my MacBook. As I said before I haven't dropped, banged, or moved my mac around too much, and I have downloaded only a few programs, such as; Microsoft Messenger, Limewire, and Transmission - which worked great at first but now only downloads files to like 99.9% or something. Anyways, last night around the same time as before (about 2:40AM) I got the same screen :( I had about the same battery life as well... I was wondering if anyone knows what's up? I haven't made any hardware changes either...

Thanks :S

I only know enough to maybe let you figure out what is causing the KP.
Open Finder - go to Macintosh HD - Library - Logs and open panic log

The airport card is causing the panics - since it is a brand new machine - I would take it back for an exchange.
