Changing location

Am downloading audiobooks and some old time radio shows to listen to on my iPod.

Most of them are mp3 files. iTunes puts them in the Music folder which is a pita when I just want my iPod to shuffle through my music.

Is there a way to delete them from the Music folder / move them to the AudioBooks folder in iTunes?

ok, found out i have to convert the files from .mp3 to .m4b

all the instructions i found so far are based on itunes 5 or 6. think the same will work with 7?

Well have converted an mp3 to m4b, but it really looks like there is no need for this with itunes 7. Just according to my reading it appears that with previous versions of itunes there was no option to remember playback position with mp3. itunes 7 does allow this. I do not see any advantage of changing the file to m4b at this time, as it still keeps the file in the music folder and does not move it to the audiobooks folder.

So, anyone have some ideas?

Tried the first tip I found - delete it from the Library and re-import the m4b file - still puts it in the music library instead of Audiobooks - very annoying

2 1/2 hours of reading and trying and finally some small success - have only been working with a single chapter of a book to start - have now gotten it to import into the Audiobooks folder - some more experimenting and I will report back here on the methodolgy - have read through at least 6 pages of links in google and none of them are clear and most are just flat wrong

Took 30 minutes to import the 2nd file - only 5 minutes for the 3rd

Now to try combining the chapters into a single file.

Will start a new thread on how to import mp3's into the Audiobook folder with a better title - I now have success with single files and with merging files - it does take two different processes

thanks for all your hardwork people in the future will love to have this information and will only take a few minutes to search instead of all the hours you put into it.

I'll get it up, may take me a couple more days to type the whole thing out. Think I have the process for a single file ready to go. Still need to put together instructions for merging.

Plus, one of the methods requires a $40 program - still looking to find something that does the job if not for free, maybe in the $10-20 range.

edit: have found free method for all steps now - it's not that easy if you're trying to figure it out from all the bits and pieces spread around the web - now have to re-write the one I had ready to go
