I have an old Vaio F150 laptop (cd-rom and floppy drive, usb 1.0, IR port)

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get files from the Vaio onto MacBook?

I have tried to attach my WD My Drive as well as several flash drives, but the Vaio won't read them...

Does your Viao have an ethernet port?
If so, you can use a simple ethernet cable to transfer files.

It sounds like you're using a Windows 98 or lower machine, which doesn't have support of USB flash drives and external hard drives. Try following the instructions of this page and see if you can get your usb drives working.
