Giving apps focus

Hi all,

I'm a recent switcher and one of the things I like most about the my mac is how easy it is to do so much with keyboard shortcuts. The only problem I sometimes encounter on some apps is hitting cmd + Q or cmd + H and the shortcut doesn't work because even though I got to the app with a cmd + tab the shortcut's or grayed out. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Similar to Window's alt+tab, you can command+tab, to switch programs in front. I think that's the best way to do it =)
