iTunes auto-updated to 7.3 on my macbook a couple of days ago and now I get constant error messages stating the above:

The iTunes Library File cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50).

What does this mean and what can I do to fix this?

Thanks!

I have narrowed it down... it happens when I switch applications.

As long as I don't click out of the iTunes window I am alright. But, as soon as I click on my email or browser, I get the error message.

That help any?

Should I uninstall iTunes and re-download it?

If so, how do I uninstall it?

What i would do first before i did a reinstall of itunes is this:

1. Go to Mac hard drive and then- users/yourname/music/itunes/ and MOVE the file "itunes Library" to a safe place.

2. At the drop down on itunes "FILE" choose the function "IMPORT" and give it the path to where your music is and let it import your music again and see if that doesn't solve your problem.

It could be your library file got hosed for some reason, this would fix that. If you still have the problem then you might want to try a reinstall of itunes itself. Under FINDER type in itunes and delete everything it brings up except any music files of course... Then install itunes and do item #2

Hope this helps...

****. That's what I get for not waiting until a fix is posted. I ended up rebuilding my library (could've sworn I'd backed up the old one, but I can't find it now). It's all good, except I've lost my playlists (which is primarily a bummer because I have two playlists I use for my iTMS wishlists, one for the US store and one for the Japan store. Now I've lost the list of what I was going to buy. I guess the upshot is I've saved myself about $50 and ¥4500!).

I figured out how to fix it last night before checking back to this thread:

HOW I FIXED THIS ON MY MACHINE:

In iTunes goto File/Export Library and save the library.xml file on your desktop.

Close iTunes.

Delete the 2 library files in the itunes folder.

Restart iTunes... your library will be empty.

Goto file/import and choose the library file you just created in step one.

Problem solved.

I also posted this on the apple board at the link cwa107 gave.

FYI: This method keeps all your song info and playlists intact.

I can't even get my iTunes to open. I click on it and it bounces a couple of times and then does nothing.

this is exactly why I never do the updates. they fcuk up iTunes every single time.

now, how am I to fix this problem if I can't even get iTunes to open? should I just wait for another update?

ETA: just saw the Shapeshifter problem and that fixed it.
