two independent ethernet interfaces on imac

Hi Guys,

I am interested as to whether any iMac has the capacity for two independent ethernet interfaces. I'm aware that the mac pro offers this, but on the apple website the iMac is only listed in the tech specs as offering a single. Does anyone know if there is a way to get around this, or whether it is feasible? Would it require much knowledge if mucking about with hardware is involved?

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Nope, not possible. No place to plug a card into.

There are two command line utilities called TUN and TAP. They allow you to be on two different networks at the same time (such as a VPN). Would that do it for you?

I'm sure there's USB-based Ethernet adapters, no?

Actually, not sure about a USB ethernet adapter, but would it be worth it? USB is 12megabits per sec (max), ethernet is 100Megabits per sec.

FireWire would be a better alternative. But I think you can do this with software (tun / tap).

giulio is right, there are software work arounds, and you can create many IP addresses on one card, but I gotta ask: "Why? What are you trying?"

Isn't USB 2.0 rated at 480Mb/s?
