Help with importing cd's to iTunes

I am new to macs and have a ibook G4 that runs 10.3.9 I am trying to import my cd's into itunes. When I put the cd into the drive iTunes pulls up and in the bottom right corner there is a "import cd" button that I push to import into iTunes. The problem I run into is it takes about 8-10 minutes to import a regular music cd. That is a lot longer than my old pc's would do. Also I run into the problem where sometimes it doesn't import all the songs.
