Okay, another question since I am a pretty new at this, I am running my 12" Ibook, 1ghz, 512g memory with Panther installed from the factory and it seems to run okay, Would I gain anything by reloading it or leave it the way it is?

thanks,

Jim

you would gain next to nothing if you reinstalled.

Apple doesnt install tons of junk that you dont need like PCs...There are some programs that you might just want to drag to the trash (like IE) but other then that you are fine

Exactly. Also, I'd suggest keeping up to date with the Software Update feature, and to make sure that you periodically run the maintenance scripts and repair permissions (I use the free application called OnyX to handle all of this).

I agree. Leave it, don't bother re-installing it. I bought mine used and decided to do a clean install after I got it since someone else's name was on it. It ran the same before and after.
