Soon to be Mac daddy now a Mac daddy!

The brilliant Step-Daughter who just graduated Valedictorian of her class and is attending Harvard in the fall, finally pulled the trigger on her new Macbook. Anyway, she has an external HD for her old Windows machine and I was wondering if her new Mac could read those files? It's formatted NTFS. I would like to back-up her entire old HD on that and then re-install fresh on the old windows machine. I was hoping she could access her old files off the external (USB) HD with the new Mac. Will it work?

mac can read NTFS, just can't write to it. you're safe.
