can i remove the duplicates in itunes by simply selecting the remove copies setting in the preference menu?? or are there other ways to remove the duplicates ??

Yes, that will work. You can also do something like "sort by name" and delete the files individually. As long as the files themselves are in the default iTunes library location iTunes will delete the files from your hard drive too.

If you want to do it manualy go to view>show duplicates and then you can delete the ones you wnat to manualy without having to go through all of your songs in your library.
