I couldn't stand the Mac mouse, so I just got a new 5-button mouse (which doesn't have a Mac driver for it), but I can't set either of the 2 side buttons to do anything.

Is there some way to force these buttons to act as the normal side-click?

Thanks. :)

If it's a decent mouse, you should be able to configure the button behaviour somewhere, presumably in the System Preferences where the installer would have added a pref pane.

And yeah *gasp* sometimes we do pay for our software. I always thought developers were people too and had to eat and pay the rent just like me.

SteerMouse is another third-party USB and Bluetooth mouse driver and it can even add functionality.

What brand of mouse and/or model did you buy?
It's free but unless you pay you will get a popup message whenever you start your computer that you just click OK for

Indeed, but I'm not accustomed to paying $20 just to bind a button on a mouse. I have entire programs that cost less than that. It would be much cheaper for anybody to just buy a Mac-compatible mouse.

Thanks for the help, all! :) - The mouse is a Fellows Optical 5-button mouse [seen here].

I found a ton of stuff on the web when I searched for

fellowes "optical mouse" mac driver

If the search comes up empty for you, check your spelling of Fellowes.

Hmm, thanks. I get lots of results, but none of them are actual mac drivers.

They're mostly just loosely related odds and ends.
