Combo drive support issues

I just put in an HP CD-RW DVD-ROM drive. It reads CD's but when I try to burn one it says the drive is not supported. Is there anyway to fix this or do I have to find a mac friendly drive. BTW I am running OS 9.1. Please help!

Have you checked to see if you have all the plug-ins for the drive?

Have you tried looking on the manufacturers site to see if they mention it being Mac compatible, as well as on the Apple site?
