All this started happening AFTER i did the updates. Before i did the updates it did not give me any grey screen.i have also done the hardware test as well.everything passed.anyone have a solution for this problem?
I have also checked to see if this imac falls under recall act but i missed the boat by a digit or 2.Anyone with help on this will be greatly appreciative.

How about fixing permissions (Disk Utility)? After every update always reset the permissions. Was it 10.4.10 you updated? I had no issues 2 days ago with this update.

I don't quite understand your post. Are you saying it just crashed once and you got this error log, or does the whole Mac not boot into OS X?

Actually the grey screen will come up in the middle of working on a project asking me to reboot the machine. So technically crashing. This is my 2nd mac.I have a ibook as well and i loved it so much that i purchased this one because the person said it has a kernal panic problem.Which i knew if i came here you all could tell me what the problem maybe. It has no problems with the hardware as i have done the hardware test.

Actually yes it updated to that version this last time. But it was fine until i did the updates.I think that is what the person whom owned it was having. The installation disks are the originals that was purchased when they bought the machine.

Ok I think it's safe to say this is a hardware problem.

Do you know if any new RAM was installed, other than the factory installed module? If the previous owner never told you and you can't reach him/her, you will have to look into the RAM slots.

Also take a look at these two recall programs iMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Power Supply Issues, iMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues and see if your iMac is part of those recall programs. If it's an iSight iMac though it won't be included though.

Yes it is an Imac with Isight.Update.I actually had to re-partition the hard drive(Because when i tried to do a clean install of the OSX i kept getting an error-Kernal error and asking me to restart the machine-In the middle of trying to do a clean install of the OSX).So after i did that. The OSX finally let me reinstall it on a new partition(160 GB-so a new partition wont hurt).I was wondering how do i tell the difference in the new partition versus the old one?I want to eliminate the other one which i think that is where the problem stems from.its up and running now. Thanks for the help.I still think that there is another solution to fix this problem about a kernal error.not sure though. But no errors thus far

Using the Hardware test disk(doing an extensive test and a quick test)Everything passed. The ram is the standard ram that came on the mrchandise at the time of purchase. The only thing that was replaced was the HDD on 12-06-2006 by Apple certified Technitions.

Well i have a update on this situation.I installed with a DVD of just Tiger(so all the extras would not be included as i was thinking that it was a software problem)MacHeadCase-you were right! It has 512mb of ram built in.But the old owner had ram installed to total ram a little over a gig. This section here:
Memory Module: DIMM1/J6700, 1 GB, DDR2 SDRAM, PC2-4200U-444
That slot is showing as empty now.what i did was a clean install using Tiger 10.4.3(which the disks that came with the Imac is Tiger 10.4.1).After that it has not crashed.I have had it up and running now since 11am and its now 310pm.I would like to know how would i get the ram out?I know i saw a website someone posted that i could use as a reference.Oh i did get a 2 year squaretrade warrenty(becasue i insisted an ebay transaction so that i could get warrenty coverage for the rest of the parts!)on the merchandise. Thanks for all the help

Take the extra module out right away otherwise the kernel panics could start any minute all over again. As suspected, the kernel panics were caused by bad RAM and have nothing to do with software related problems.

Can you ask the previous owner for the RAM invoice papers? Where was the module bought? Does it have a lifetime warranty? If so, you should be able to get a free exchange for a perfectly working module.

Did the previous owner send the Owner's manual? There is an entire section on how to install your own RAM in it.

Here is the Owner's Manual in .pdf form from Apple's website. There is a chapter on how to add RAM yourself so just do the reverse and you will be able to pull the bad module out.

On the contrary! The extra RAM can come in handy when working with lots of apps running at the same time: that's the amount I have on my iMac G5, 1,5GB RAM. Besides, if you're entitled with a lifetime warranty to get a free new and perfectly well working stick to replace the faulty one, why pass it up?

Good luck. You shouldn't have any problems if you follow the instructions carefully.

I don't go for the cheaper brands exactly to avoid what you are experiencing at the moment. Not that more expensive brands are immune to bad sticks but at least you don't have any problems getting an exchange and they do carry hassle-free lifetime warranties on their sticks. Besides, the returns must be less frequent because of the quality control.

I like OWC because I have dealt with them in the past and they are a pleasure to deal with. For example, 2GB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz DIMM. Yes you saw that right: a 2 GB stick for your iMac model (and mine! w00t!!!) for $109.99! Not too shabby. As soon as I can afford it, I'm planning on upgrading my RAM to 2.5 GB instead of the current 1.5 GB.

There are other online stores. Just look for either Kingston, Samsung, Crucial or Apple certified. Maybe Micron (I think this is the brand that ships in Intel-Macs nowadays? Maybe it's only Intel compatible? I dunno...)

And we have our very own MikeYMS who could help you out.
