Can I use iTunes to load onto a standard MP3 player I have an iPod but I also have a few small MP3 players which are useful and I don't want to get rid of them.
And is it possible to compress the files onto the player at a lower compression rate?

A few other players are supported by iTunes, but many are not. Your best bet is to plug the players you have in and see what happens in iTunes. You still won't be able to load iTMS music on them, but stuff you have ripped yourself should work.
