New Macbook and G Routers?

Is the new macbook with its N wireless still compatible with the older a/b/g routers?

How do they work, for instance, with the Lynksys WRT54GL, which is the best selling router at newegg.com.

I'd like to save a bit of money and avoid the N routers until the new spec is finalized, as CNet warns to stay away from those for now. But I do need a router for 2 months this summer while I am home on vacation.

As far as I know, they are compatible with all a/b/g routers. I haven't had personal experience with an older router but this is what I have heard.

Now I don't know much about N wireless, but I just bought a new router for home after my 2-year-olds creative touch destroyed the old router and the WAP(please don't ask). I bought the Linksys WRT54G wireless router and had my MacBook, my wife's iBook, a Windows computer, and a Suse 10 Linux box all up and running on the internet within minutes.

Works very smoothly.

From what I saw at the stores yesterday when I bought the router, the N wireless equipment *should* be backwards compatible to a/b/g. But don't quote me on that. I have zero N wireless units in the apartment, so I saved my money and bought the Linksys. True, it doesn't have the fancy whistles and bells, but it works. And that is what counts in the end.

Don't forget the last generation (Pre june 2007 C2D's) had the N built in also. You just have to find someplace to download it or pay apple $2 to enable it. I have mine "N enabled" to futureproof it. I only have a g router right now and it works fine. Later this year I might upgrade to an N router.
