Ok, so I followed these instructions from an old thread.

i just hide the folders i dont want anyone to see

in the Terminal:
mv folderName .folderName

then it will be "hidden" from all user accounts. (it becomes a folder only viewable by the root user). but to bring the folder back up:

in Finder:
Go >> Go To Folder (Shift+Command+g) >> Type in exact path (ie. /Users/username/Documents/.folderName)

or in Terminal:
open /Users/username/Documents/.folderName"

I hid a file, but now it won't come back. I'm doing every thing as said above but to no avail. Help please!

LOL....

You could try

mv .foldername foldername

to make it reappear.

Or....

to show the Hidden files using the terminal type (better yet.. copy/paste) the following:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool YES;killall Finder

Then to HIDE the "Hidden Files" Type (again, might want to just copy/paste) the following in the Terminal:

defaults delete com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles;killall Finder

You can also use the Onyx Parameters to "Show Hidden Files"

I'm glad you got it squared away. No reason to "feel stupid", there isn't anyone here that didn't have a first time using Terminal. KEEP, KEEP, KEEP using it. Read up on some basic commands, how to's, etc.

Here is a great place to start that describes the commands as spells, and walks you through the different "spells" in a really cool way. Check it out. (CLICK!) Download the .pdf of the book for free using the link on the Right side of the page "The First Book".

Great job as always Ride.

Thanks dtravis7... that's awfully kind of you.

This app XRay will make files invisible/visible with out the need to go to terminal. I like it.
