Ok well my system has been running pretty slowly lately and programs have been closing unexpectedly is there a solution for this

You might need to just clear some stuff out. Download a program called Onyx and run through the maintenance tools. It should speed up again after one or restarts

Please give us details. What programs are crashing, what other programs are open when they crash, what are the specs of your Mac, what are you doing when things crash, how/when is its slow?

See how it's hard to give any advice with the non existent info you gave us?
