I recently just bought a intel macbook off craigslist, that came with no operating system disks. I ran out to the nearest apple store and bought os x tiger, and tried loading it on my intel macbook. (1. inserted disk and help down c, 2. deleted the hard drive, reformatted for the new install) but during the installation it said "cannot procede with install"... something like that.

my question is, did i buy the wrong disks?

my computer:
macbook model: A1181
intel cpu 2.0 ghz
tiger os x 10.4.6

Is your OSX Tiger a Intel version or Power PC? Since you bought Tiger from an Apple Store you would think they would sell you the right version. Did you tell them which machine you were going to install it on or just pick up the box and pay for it?

You could have a Power PC version. I knew your Mac was an Intel, just trying to figure out what Tiger you purchased.

Edit: if you look carefully at this URL from the Apple Store, it flat out says it's for G3, G4 and G5 CPU's. So I think you have for sure a PPC Tiger there. Take it back to the Apple Store and tell them what machine it is, and you got it used from Craigs List and ask what Discs you need to purchase. You need the install DVD's for that machine. I am sure any Apple Store will help you get what you need.

DVD containing Mac OS X v10.4.6 and Xcode 2
Printed and electronic documentation
Hardware Requirements

PowerPC G5, G4 or G3 processor
Built-in FireWire
DVD drive is required for installation
At least 256MB of physical RAM

It can't hurt to take in the Macbook. That way their won't be any doubt for them what you need. My opinion anyway. Good luck.

You can't buy the retail version of Tiger for intel macs. Since all Intel macs came with restore discs for Tiger there is nobody who needs to purchase the Tiger discs to upgrade

I was pretty sure that was the case. Thanks for the conformation.
