And my personal opinion (for what its worth) is that imovie08 is terrible compared to imovie06, and that final cut beats them both hands down!

TRY THIS!

I have the Sony Handycam DCR-DVD108, and I couldn't import movies into iMovie '08 using the USB either until i FINALIZED the DVD!

Once you finalize the DVD in the menu function on the camera itself, iMovie will recognize the the camera and it will import the movie footage!
