So in the midst of creating a partition for boot camp, an error was discovered. This being my first Mac... I have no idea what it means and I'm a bit worried. Says:

"The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired"
"Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit."
"1 HFS volume checked: Volume needs repair."

Any help is appreciated. I'm still a few days of my return policy so I need to figure this out ASAP.... Thanks!

Disk Utility Error Message, what does it mean??

When I verify my Macintosh HD disk it tells me that the volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired and it gives me the following error:

"The underlying task reported failure on exit"

"Volume needs repair"

The computer is running perfectly, but this came up when I tried to create a partition with Boot Camp, and now it's worrying the heck out of me. Any help is really appreciated!

Good thing I just had this problem myself! Insert your OS X recovery disc. Reboot, holding down Alt/Option. Select the disc to boot from. When the recovery disc loads up, go to Utilities/Disk Utility on the menu bar. Run "Verify Disk" then run "Repair Disk" - that should get you back in business.

FIXED! Thank you so much man! I can't tell you how much I appreciate that. I've never had a computer that fixes itself...

Just to let you know: That happened to me when i did bootcamp. Now that error won't stop even though the disk is fine.

It possibly could. I don't know how, though. :\

Fixed it thanks to the help of this forum. Booted up from OSX disc and repaired HD from there in no time.
