cant access ibook from imac or vise versa

when i go into the network section in finder my ibook shows up like this (pic attached at the bottom)


i try and type the password in and it doesnt allow me acces. sharing, etc is all on in the system preferences. any ideas ?



i have tried with wired and wireless no luck

help !

You are typing in the username and password of the Mac you're connecting to right? Not the login info of the Mac you're on...

If you still can't connect - I'd set up a new test account on the iBook. Just name it "test" with the password "test" and see if you can connect to that....

I had problems with my Network Shares after the 10.4.10 update ... could be totally unrelated but I gotta blame something .... couldn't connect and was being told I was already connected .... I rebooted and it was all rosy again.

ok i will try a 'test' account.
