Combining pictures?

Could someone please tell me how I could combine two pictures? The only photo editing software I have is iphoto and I also have Image Browser which works with my digital camera. I want to put two pictures together (like a before and after picture) so the final picture is actually 2 pictures next to each other...I hope this makes sense!

You need an image editing package that supports layers for this sort of thing. You put each image on a layer by itself and then move the two layers around until your two images are side by side, or one on top of the other, or whatever arrangement you like. Then you save the overall image.

You have a few choices of program that can do this. In the commercial arena, Photoshop Elements is the king. In the freeware arena, GIMP is the king. Get GIMP at:

Although I haven't played with it enough to be sure it works well, the oddly named ChocoFlop also does layers, and is also freeware. It is at version 0.63 at the moment (i.e. prior to its first proper 1.0 release, so it is an alpha/beta stage program, but it looks very promising, and it is VERY fast). See:
