Non-OSX applications

If I reinstall OSX using the installation disk, will I lose the other applications that I have downloaded? How about my saved files? Thanks ...

Choose the Archive and Install option for reinstalling the OS.

It should save your 3rd party apps and personal files: it will keep the older system in a folder called Previous System: before trashing it, make sure there's nothing in there you still need.
