Macbook keeps shutting off.

Ours is a newer one, with an Intel processor.

We received it second hand from our son.

Tonight, while using it, it simply shut off on my wife. She restarted it, the battery said "98%" (my concern), and then- poof. Shut off again.

any ideas what to look for?

You might want to try resetting the PMU.

Take the Battery Out, Unplug from Power, hold down the Power Button for 10 Seconds, But the Battery Back in and Power it back on. (Thats the procedure as per the Tech Support over the phone as I remember it!)

Post back with results and whether it helped or not.

I spoke too soon. It's still doing it.

It actually occurs when my daughter logs onto the American Idol forum. yeah, I know- I know- but still. Could Safari shut down the computer???

Can it be blocked? I mean, it shuts the computer off!

Yes, try this first. If you still have the problem and the MB is within one year, definitely call Apple. They'll troubleshoot over the phone, or direct you to an Apple authorized reseller, who can take a look at it.
