My brand new 80 gig is currently connected to my macbook so I can sync iTunes. The screen of the iPod is saying do not disconnect and iTunes is not responding. it doesn't pick up the iPod or show it on the desktop. I can't turn the iPod off or anything. it's completely frozen. not even the circle time thing in the top corner is there. what's going on?

Could just be that your iPod froze up. Try resetting it. Hold the center button and Play for 3-4 seconds and it should restart. Then try syncing again.

Oh right, forgot about the first step. You have to switch the hold button to on, then switch it to off, and THEN do the two button thing.

Sorry about that, I always forget the hold button part :p

You Press the Center and Menu button at the same time until it resets, about 10 seconds.

The other button combo turns disc mode on/off.....

That used to happen to me all the time. When I first put my music on an external and the external doesn't have an active connection my iTunes would freeze. To avoid this I always make sure I have a good connection to my HD. Otherwise I'd have to force quit iTunes.
