Hi All,

First post here, i've been floating round here for awhile, found out alot of stuff off you guy's.

Anyways, i'm in the process of getting a MacPro, i've found a sweet deal (i think anyway) there's 2 MP's to choose from there both Quad 3.0Ghz,4Gb Ram, the only difference is the 1st has 2X 750Gb Drives, and a X1900 card, brand new full 3 year AppleCare, the 2nd has 2X500Gb Drives, and a FX4500, 2.5years AppleCare Left Used.

The first is roughly £3600, the Second is £3400, either will include a 30" Dell Lcd.

I do alot of Video Work eg: Final Cut Studio, After Effects, Photoshop, Video Conversion, Corporate Work.

Which do you guys think would be the one to go for.

Any Help Will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

The are both amazing... First, do you currently have a lot of storage? We are really talking about a 500Gb difference and video cards...

I would suggest the cheaper of the two.. cause most professional video editors dont store their work internally, they store them on external drives.

Hi Edit-Xtreem,

I have a Few WD MyBook Premiums 320Gbs, plus i know Hard-Drives are getting cheaper by the day, i'll get a couple of 10,000Raptor Drives.

What are the Pros/Cons of the Video Cards, the Price difference between them is substantial, not sure what to do!!

The difference in the type of video cards is what they're designed to do. The X1900 is a good general purpose video card that can handle all sorts of things. The Quadro (FX4500) has a more specific purpose. It handles 3D rendering programs far better than the X1900 does. However, this benefit comes at a cost. The Quadro doesn't handle games as well as the X1900 does.

From the looks of it, it would seem as though the Quadro fits your needs perfectly

Agreed with Kash on this. For 98% of users the X1900 would be all that is needed. And it does beat the Quadro in some tests. But, for your purposes, that's what the FX4500 was built to do.

Don't know how prices translate there in the UK, but here in the US, you can buy a half dozen 750GB Seagates for the price of that card.

edit: Just an FYI, for those wanting a gaming card with these two options - take the X1900.

Thanks All for your replies.

I'm gonna go for the one with the FX4500, i'm not a gamer, i dabble now and then, my main use for this machine will be Video Editing/Design Work.

I'll be sticking in more RAM/HDD's as i go along.

Thanks Again.

P.s/ If theres any test's anyone wants me to do with this setup when i get it, let me know.
