Hi there, I'm new to Macs and have recently taken over a Powerbook G4 at work. For some reason, the Accounts/Users icon is missing when I pull up System Preferences, even when I login as root. Is there a setting I need to look into to re-show the Accounts icon in the System Preferences menu? Thanks in advance!

Hi, try this:

Firstly, close System Prefs and then navigate to:

Home folder > Library > Caches.

Find the following files:

com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache

and delete them.

Empty your Trash then re-open System Preferences and see if the User Account icon has returned.

Thanks for the reply. Did that on both my account and the root account and still no luck :(
