heya all,

Hope you can help me as i found myself purely disgusted with Apples Support web site.

I have a G3 ibook dual USB, got it used, the guy kept his software.

I have a copy of OSX i bought from a friend, it is 10.2 i got the shrunken display issue, where the display image is very small, kinda like if you hook up a PC LCD laptop display that doesnt match the output, ie a 14 inch display on a 12 inch mobo, any how, Macs website gives a one paragraph blurb about using the software that came with the mac to fix the problems.

there has to be another way. ??? i downloaded the 97mb 10.2.8 update .dmg from apple.com and ran it, it didnt fix the issue.

any ideas? would Mac OSX 10.3 installation fix the issue, i emailed the guy i got the laptop from; he said it came with 9.2.2 and 10.2 dual boot OS installations.

any information would be fantastic as i am about to resell this and get a "mac sucks" bumper sticker for my truck.

thanks

It sounds like you have a screen resolution problem. I belive if you go to system preferences -> display. Youcan change the screen resolution, which should resolve your problem. My wife iBook is set at 1024x768. Your current resolution maybe set at something else.

Have you done a complete reformat and clean installation using the 10.2 software that you bought? Installing Panther would definitely solve the problem, but a clean installation of Jaguar should solve it as well.

If you download any of the update versions it is better to get the combo update (i.e. Mac OS X Update Combo 10.2.8). I would try this first. If not be sure to do a clean install and then after 10.2 is installed. Then install the above.

yeah i did get that combo update, do you jsut double click it and it runs right.?? also when i went to run the re-install; did erase and clean install, but it offered me an updgrade option, i know i did the erase and clean install the first time too. the upgrade option says needs 80.2MB space, that is the 10.2.8 pack update is it? or you just run that update thru the installed mac OS?

If you mean software update? I would use the combo update not the software update version. Also after the install, run the disk utility to repair permissions. If the OS X 10.2 disk is a full install disk you should not have a problem.

Small note: the software update version of 10.2.8 and the combo 10.2.8 is different. The combo version has a little more than the software update. Sometimes the combo version will resolve many problems.
