Changing default applications

Any ideas if/how you can change the default application that a particular file type opens in? eg: making it so that .doc files open in Textedit rather than Word (other than by using the 'open with' option)

Black Macbook C2D 2GHz 3GB RAM 250GB HD iPhone 4 iPad 3G
Right click on a file and select Get Info. Look down to where it says "Open With". Click on the drop down menu and select the program you want that file type to open with, and then hit the "Change All" button.
