Why won't menu items highlight anymore?

Your Mac's Specs
Apple Black MacBook 2 GB RAM, 2.0 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo Proecessor, 120 GB HD. 30 GB Black iPod Video
All of the sudden, when I click on 'File' or 'Edit' or any of the menu options, none of the items in any of the drop down menus is highlighted in blue when I drag my cursor over them. I don't know what's going on and I hope someone has an answer.

Edit: Problem solved, I just messed around and got the problem fixed. You all can sleep well now tonight.
