Woo Hoo!! Just got my iMac in the mail, and i'm setting it up right now! :D
I was wondering if anyone could help me with this question? What exactly do i have to do in order to be able to read an external on both my Mac and a PC? Should I format it on the mac or the pc? Thank you all!

In order to read and write the external drive from both a Mac and Windows, you would need to format the drive as FAT32.

Since Windows has placed some weird limitation on FAT32 partitions, I would suggest doing the formatting on the Mac. All you have to do is run Disk Utility and pick the MS DOS option (or something along those lines)
