I downloaded a few .exe format programs but don't know how to make them work to install them. Is it actually possible to open them and install them??
Thanks.

You need to run the .exe file in windows via parallels or boot camp.

Positively no way to execute an EXE in OS X. If you are dealing with a package wrapped in an EXE (Winzip, for example, can turn a .zip into an exe so that the end user does not need Winzip to open it), software does exist to extract that kind of information. Do not confuse that with running the software however.

exe files contain information that only Windows can read
dmg files contain information that only Mac OS X can read

the only way to convert them would be to get the developer to completely rewrite them for Mac.

If you're irked at this, consider that it's the same reason 400,000 Windows viruses can't run in Macs.

That's why it exists — to open WMA files. MS droped WM support for Macs, and links to it from its site. You can get it at versiontracker.com or macupdate.com.

Also download a QuickTime plugin called Perian that expands the number of codecs QuickTime can handle through Flip4Mac — or otherwise, I imagine.

Have you tried other files? Nothing but WMP running on Windows can open a file coded with WMP's DRM.

You can use CrossOverMac on an Intel mac to open/run/install exe files.
