I plan to upgrade my HD, not now, but in awhile when my applcare runs out (quite some time).

Would this puppy fit in there? I can't tell if its 3.5 or 2.5.

from the connections on it, it looks like a 3.5".

i can't imagine you could find a 2.5" of that size for that price just yet...

Yeah I thought it was a 3.5 too. Too bad, that would have been sweet! This looks more realistic.

I believe the largest commercially available notebook drive is 200GB, but even then, the only manufacturer is Toshiba (which isn't bad, but just cuts down on competition). If you want one that big, here's a link

I'm not a big fan of TigerDirect. I would much rather shop at Newegg, which has a MUCH better return policy than TigerDirect. I know, you have to pay tax at Newegg, but I personally find it worth the fact that if anything goes wrong with the product within a year, Newegg will replace it no questions asked.

Why not just get the original Apple one ? I believe they have 160 GB.

i don't think apple ships internal 2.5" drives without installing them for you.

at least i don't see them on thier website - i only see 3.5" internals for the mac pro.

plus, there's really no "original" apple hard drive since they just buy them from other companies.

eric is correct. There is no Apple branded hard drive, they're just drives made by companies like Fujitsu and Western Digital

Xmarlton, that Seagate is not the one you want either - MacBooks use SATA interface or Serial ATA - need to make sure this is what you get
If it says PATA, ATA, ATA-150, EIDE, or Enhanced IDE this is not the one you want.

Seagate does make that drive in SATA, though not on Tiger's site. They do have the Hitachi 160GB.

Newegg carries the proper Seagate drive.

parking/disengaging

I'm guessing that the ibook will still disengage any 2.5" drive, no particular extra requirements to ensure that it is able to do this?
