My spotlight is not searching for files. When i type something in, nothing happens. It doesn't even say "searching". If i press "return" nothing happens either. Can anyone help

ps. i tried rebuilding the index via making hd private and then not. It rebuilt the index, but did not fix the problem.

Snowboard,

You might want to try deleting spotlight's plist and restart the computer.

The plist file is located in ~/Library/Preferences and is named com.apple.spotlight.plist.

Give it a try, tell us how it works out.

apparetnly before i deleted the plist, spotlight worked from within the finder, but not from the menubar. Now it doesn't work from either spot.
