How to transfer my email folder from my old Mac

I have just bought a new MacPro laptop.
it is running Mac OSX 10.4.9

I have a desktop G5 running MAC OSX 10.3.9

I have been using Mail on the G5

I have set up my email on the new laptop. Now I want to transfer all my email folders from the G5 across to the new laptop, also using Mail.

I have been told to use a Firewire connection, but I am not sure how to proceed.

Any assistance please.
