I found the answers to some of the questions about the movie. I couldn't ask about one question because the thread was locked. In the beginning of the movie when Steve was making the announcement about a partnership between Apple and Microsoft and the audience was getting off. What came of that agreement?

among other things Microsoft bought a portion of Apple to keep it afloat after it was all but run into the ground in Steve's absence. I believe for a short time IE was the default browser in Mac OS and Office for Mac came to fruition. I'm sure I missed something but off the top of my head....that's all I can think of.

Here is a video. Steve Jobs explains it better than me.

BZZZZT wrong answer.

MS purchased $150 Million worth of Non-Voting Apple Stock and the two companies settled some long standing patent disputes. The purchase of the Non-Voting stock was part of the patent settlement and after the agreed 5 years MS sold all shares at a tidy profit. I stress Non-Voting as the stock was part of a settlement and MS never had a stake in or any control over the company.

Apple agreed to make IE the default browser o the Mac, but continued to ship the OS with Netscape pre-installed as well. Apple dumped both when they introduced Safari. MS agreed to continue to make Office for the Mac for at least 5 years, which they have continued well beyond.

The other terms of the settlement, including what MS paid Apple for withdrawing over a dozen other patent suits, most of which MS would have likely lost, have been kept a secret by both companies.

Oh, I didn't know this was a game show. :Smirk:

I stand corrected. Thank you.

So Microsoft's $150m investment in Apple had less to do with the financial situation of Apple at the time and was mostly part of the settlement of patent disputes?

Yep. Good call. I never realized that. You'd think that since MS discontinued IE for the Mac that Apple would dump it. Wonder if it will still be there in Leopard?

I do not remember seeing IE on my Core Duo Mini out of the box. I just did a reinstall after my testing the mini with Vista and will go check.

It is not on my MBP. At least not in the applications folder, nor anywhere Spotlight will show me.

Where is it. Are you sure it wasn't simply copied over via the Migration Assistant?

It's not on my Core Duo Mini with a fresh Format and Install with the factory DVD. I wanted to see how bad it was on the Intel so network copied it from older G4 Mac. It was horrible. Would not show the pics on the main page of apple.com and was so slow I thought it crashed! :D

It is not on my MBP nor is it on my C2D iMac. Unless I am totally missing something, but I could not find it on either of my systems.

Weird. Its on mine. I don't remember copying it. I never used Migration Assistant.
Is there a way to tell if I manually copied it over?

If I copied it over manually, I would not have copied the preferences as well... The favorites.html file is in my preferences, with a Created date as 7/11/03. The 'Explorer' folder in preferences was created august 1 2006 (about a month before I bought the mac).

If someone has IE installed, can they confirm these dates as well?

App:
Created- july 27 02
Modified- august 22 03
