I have my desktop iMac icon to tell me how many gb is free.

I had 306gb free, and deleted 14gb from my machine, but the desktop icon only told me that there was 320gb free when i restarted it, as opposed to doing it 'real time' if you get what I mean.

Is there a way to do this? As in refresh the desktop so it recalculates how much is free?

The Desktop will refresh eventually, but if you want to "force refresh" it all you need to do is relaunch Finder from the "Force Quit" menu.
