I just recieved my OWC Mercury Elite Pro HD (300gb). I am not sure which connection to use for optimal performance though. The choices are: eSATA, FireWire 400 (1394A) Port, FireWire 800 (1394B) Ports—there are two of these or the USB 2.0 port.

I will be connecting to a MacPro and will be using the drive strictly for data backup.

thanks,
Brice

Someone might know otherwise, but AFAIK it's FireWire400.

Here are my basic conclusions:

1. Since the two drives cost about the same, if you want the best portability, choose FireWire. If you want the best performance, choose SATA.

2. If you are using a single FireWire drive, there is no essential difference between connecting it via FireWire 400 or FireWire 800.

That quote came from this link.

Food for thought.

Firewire 400, unless the Mac Pro has a Firewire 800 port, I think it does. That will give best performance.

I'm not sure if any hard drives support FW800 yet, but I could be wrong.

What do you mean Pulse? Its a feature on the enclosure, doesnt really have anything to do with the drive itself.

My Bad, I was thinking of my recent trip to look for external hd enclosures. The ones the shop had didn't support FW800.
